view of a still from The Makers video

After almost three years of closed borders, Japan has reopened its doors to hungry tourists ready to explore this always fascinating county and culture. A culture in balance, ever evolving yet deeply intertwined in its own heritage, creates an incredible allure that can be hard to ignore. “The Makers”, INFINITI’s newly launched video series, is a deep dive into the often elusive subjects of modern Japanese artistry and design. As a brand with Japanese roots that also serves to push the boundaries, Modern Japanese Luxury is home to INFINITI.

Throughout the video series, you will be able to meet artisans of Japan who share their personal design philosophies and source of inspiration. With its debut beginning in Kyoto, a city that provides a perfect backdrop with its deep history under transformation, season one follows six celebrated craftspeople who push their limits while honoring their past. Connecting with their tradition in a perfect blend of modernity, these craftspeople take you through innovations and their quest for progress, reimagining old crafts using newer technologies from other industries.

Season two journeys deeper into Japanese luxury through the lens of architecture and design. Follow along with five highly credentialed Japanese architects while they demonstrate how Japanese design principles and philosophies persist quite tangibly and consistently – whether the topic is buildings or cars. With so much to learn and understand, “The Makers” will bring you through a journey of luxury you’d never expect.

Recently awarded first place in the “Digital + Online” category in the 2022 Campaign Brief Asia Awards, “The Makers” has made its own mark for creativity within the marketing industry and well beyond. While the series filled a travel lust guide during the pandemic, it continues to be an accessible way to get deep into the subject to Modern Japanese Luxury, spinning abstract concepts into a beautifully composed visual reality.
