Limited time offer count down timer
car damage from a hurricane

In the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, INFINITI is offering employee pricing and special financing with deferred payments to those in the designated FEMA disaster areas who have an insurance claim on their current vehicle due to the storm.

INFINITI will offer these programs beginning today through January 2, 2019, allowing customers to take advantage of special pricing on new INFINITI models at INFINITI retailers. Details about the program is available at INFINITI retailers. For those customers affected by Hurricane Florence these programs are still available through the end of November.

INFINITI Financial Services (IFS) will offer payment deferrals for new vehicle purchases for up to three months, allowing Michael’s victims to focus on current needs without the added burden of an immediate vehicle payment.

Current IFS customers in FEMA designated areas in Florida and Georgia are encouraged to contact IFS via phone (800-627-4437) or chat online at infinitifinance.com to discuss available options.

Even the best air conditioning systems may struggle to cool down your home with the woes of our Georgia heat still present. When the heat gets overbearing, try cooling off with these creative ideas.

Build your own mini air conditioning unit

When it feels too hot even with a fan directed right at you, you can use that fan and combine it with a large mixing bowl full of ice to build your own mini air conditioning unit. The principle is the same as a real air conditioner, except that it works by melting ice rather than boiling liquid.

According to ApartmentTherapy.com, you’ll be best off tilting the bowl so that the air from the fan hits the ice as directly as possible. Even after the ice has melted into water, it should still help cool the room, albeit at a reduced rate. Alternatively, you can use frozen water bottles instead of a bowl of ice and then reuse them later.

Know your pulse points
If there’s no pool around to get completely submerged, you can still get cool by strategically pouring water or placing a cool object over your body’s pulse points. These are the points where it is easiest to feel your pulse because your blood vessels are close to the surface of your skin; as a result, because they are so close, you can also use them to cool off your blood, which will lower your whole body temperature as it travels through your circulatory system.
The best pulse points, according to About.com, are the neck, temple, inner thighs, back and top of knees, ankles, inside bend of elbows and inner wrists.

Swap your sheets
Changing bed fabrics can be a great way to stay cool in the spring, summer and fall. While flannel and fleece do an excellent job of keeping you warm in the winter, fabrics that stay cooler and breathe easier-such as cotton-will be more effective at keeping you fresh during the summer nights. In addition, try to get your hands on a buckwheat pillow. Herbco.com says that the naturally-occurring air space between buckwheat hulls allows them to dissipate heat rather than trap it like conventional pillows. Combined with cooler fabrics, you’ll no longer need to toss and turn while looking for the coldest part of the bed.

Turn off all heat sources
This might seem like an obvious tip, but homes are full of sources of heat that are not so obvious. First, the basics: close the blinds, turn off the lights (or switch to incandescent light bulbs) and use the microwave or grill instead of the stove or oven if you need to cook something. Turn off and unplug all electronic devices as well, especially computers and TVs, which generate heat while running and even while idling.
In addition, About.com says that light fabrics reflect heat rather than absorb it, which means that if possible, you can even “turn off” your warm surfaces by covering them with smooth white fabrics, even if that means simply throwing a white sheet over the corduroy sofa.

Combine each of the tips above to stay cool all throughout the year, no matter how warm it gets.

Prototype 10 parked in front of a warehouse

At the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, INFINITI unveiled its striking Prototype 10 concept car, a daring electrified speedster that provides a window into the brand’s desire to deliver driving pleasure and thrilling performance from electrified powertrains.

In creating the single-seat Prototype 10, INFINITI has re-imagined the classic speedster with a cool, clean and forward-looking design. The concept is a natural evolution of the form language first seen in the INFINITI Q Inspiration and hints at future design cue for the brand. INFINITI plans to electrify all of its new production cars from 2021 onwards.

“The INFINITI Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars. Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterized by the simple love of driving,” said INFINITI Executive Design Director, Karim Habib.

Fall brings cooler temperatures and shorter days, providing a seasonal reminder for much-needed car care. When the leaves begin to change, take some time to repair the damage your car has incurred from a long, hot summer and prepare it for autumn changes and winter stresses.

Tire check
Keeping an eye on the wear and tear of your tires throughout the year is a must-do for drivers, and fall is no exception. Not only should you check that the tread of your tires is sufficient for safe driving, you should also consider if it’s time to invest in a new set of wheels, perhaps even weather-specific ones.
“If you notice that your tires have less than 1/8-inch of tread left, then it’s time to go shopping. (The distance from a quarter’s rim to George Washington’s hairline is about 1/8 inch.),” advises Consumer Reports.
It’s also essential that your tires maintain proper air pressure with fluctuating temperatures. According to CarCare.org, “Air pressure in a tire decreases one-two pounds for every 10 degrees of temperature change.”

A light in the dark
Shorter days mean more hours driving in the dark, so make sure your car’s lights are at their brightest.
“Walk around the outside of the car and check the operation of all lights: headlights, taillights, parking lights, brake lights and emergency flashers,” writes TheCarConnection.com writer Suzanne Kane.” Make sure all lights are clean.”

Clean slate
With all the fun that summer brings, it also brings a big mess that seems to glue itself to your car. Before you add leaves, rain and muck to the mixture of dead bugs, bird droppings and tree sap, Consumer Reports suggests giving your car a thorough cleaning. For an extra layer of protection, invest time in a car wax.

Routine upgrades
Wiper blades are essential to safe driving, but wipers are surprisingly fragile. Check that yours are working well, and if not, swap them out for new blades, advises Kane. Now is also the time to do a fluid check.
“This includes washer fluid, along with transmission, brake and power steering fluids. Make sure they are all at or above minimum safe levels and refill as necessary,” reports Kane.
With the changing season, it’s also time to change your oil and air filter, and to top off your cooling system, according to Kane.

Mechanical monitoring
There is never a good time to get stranded with a dead battery, so Consumer Reports recommends inspecting your vehicle’s battery for clean and tight connections. You want a battery with a full charge to take you through your daily adventures.
Kane also recommends having your brakes checked and testing that your vehicle’s heater and defroster are in order as well as doing a thorough inspection of what rests under the hood.
“Look for leaks, cracks or loose clamps in the cooling system and squeeze the hoses and replace any that are spongy-feeling or brittle. Inspect the underside of drive belts for fraying and replace as required. If you’ve noticed any engine noises, experienced sputtering or other engine problems, have a licensed mechanic thoroughly inspect the engine and make any necessary repairs,” reports Kane.
By paying attention to car maintenance in the fall, you’ll be readying your car for a successful run through autumn and beyond.

Keep your vehicle running smoothly

The summer driving season is nearly over and stores are full of back to school merchandise.

Now that you’ve stocked up on new pencils and notebooks, make sure you don’t miss the bus. Your car has worked hard in the summer heat, so give it a head start on the new school year with some service.

Review the basics – Start with an oil and filter change. This summer has been hot. Through it all, your vehicle’s engine has been working in an enclosed space that is hotter still. Even at a comfortable 80 degrees outside temperature, it could be more than 200 degrees in your vehicle’s engine compartment. That heat puts a lot of stress on the engine’s oil, causing breakdown that can lead to reduced protection and possibly even the formation of sludge. Fresh lubrication will ensure smooth sailing on your travels.

Changing the rest of your vehicle’s filters when have the oil changed, if necessary, is a good practice. Remember the engine’s air filter, fuel filter, and the commonly-overlooked cabin air filter, if your car or truck has one. A new cabin filter will more effectively keep particulates and irritants such as pollen out of your cabin’s airflow. Change it up and breathe easy.

Small but crucial, the often-overlooked crankcase ventilation system filters should be checked and replaced at regular intervals, as well. If you don’t, you could be headed for a more expensive problem down the road. Your engine’s ventilation system traps vapor and directs it through the engine’s intake system instead of letting it seep out into the atmosphere. A failed or plugged system will allow the buildup of excess pressure inside your engine. When that happens, the pressure can squeeze out an oil seal, leading to a serious leak. No doubt your engine will breathe easier.

Don’t forget the details – While you’re under the hood, make sure everything else checks out, too. What kind of shape is the serpentine belt in? How about the coolant that’s in the reservoir? Not only should it be brought to the proper level, but the coolant should be just a few years old. Let it circulate too long and it loses the additives that help protect your engine from corrosion; not only that, it will no longer offer the same level of freeze and boil-over protection.

Batteries also hate the heat, so make sure you’re not making its job harder with corroded or excessively dirty electrical connections. If there is obvious green corrosion at the battery terminal connects, first neutralize the acid, then clean and re-seat all the connections. If your battery is not of the maintenance free variety, it should also be checked for the proper fluid levels. If you’re not comfortable doing these jobs, your dealer’s service department will know how.

Last, because the days are getting shorter fast, do a walk-around to make sure all the lights are working. From running lamps to blinkers and even license plate lamps, check them all. It’s obvious when a headlamp is out, but not everybody takes notice of just how many bulbs there can be on an automobile. Take a look, and if you’re unsure of which replacement bulbs to get, consult your owner’s manual. Or simply stop by and let the expert technicians do it for you.

A quick check of these items will help you stay on course. Check your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance items and make an appointment with your service department.

Tips for fending off nature’s blood-sucking fiends

Exploring the great outdoors is a wonderful thing to do, but it is a joy that brings with it the potential pain of ticks. Ticks lurk just off of trails and in fields, thriving on moisture and humidity and waiting for hosts to pass by. When bitten by one, you are at risk for a number of diseases up to and including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Ehrlichiosis and Lyme disease. To help avoid the scourge of ticks and the diseases they carry while avoiding the use of harmful chemicals, try these natural methods for tick protection.

Lycopersicon hirsutum
According to CDC.gov, the wild tomato plant, or Lycopersicon hirsutum, is a natural resource for the active ingredient 2-undecanone. The essential oil from the leaves and stems of the plant can be applied to skin, clothing and any gear being carried as a means to repel ticks. Applying up to 10 drops to your clothing or skin can help prevent attracting the attention of ticks.

Lavender
According to LiveStrong.com, lavender has tested favorably as a natural means to ward off ticks and prevent tick eggs from hatching. To get natural protection for yourself, utilize no more than 10 drops of lavender essential oil by mixing into the rinse when doing laundry, by spraying it on clothing and backpacks or by applying to skin.

Homemade vinegar-based repellent
OhSimply.com recommends another homemade concoction that scares ticks away. In a spray bottle, mix approximately two cups of distilled white vinegar with one cup of water and about 20 drops of a bath oil scent of your choice. Eucalyptus, citrus and peppermint are recommended for their strong smells, which not only serve to cover up the odor of vinegar, but also help repel ticks on their own. It is recommended that the mixture be reapplied about every four hours or so for maximum effect.

Neem seed oil
According to a study published at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, neem seed oil proves 100% effective at killing certain tick larvae within 27 hours. As with other essential oils, neem seed oil can be blended with vinegar and oil to be used as a spray to naturally repel ticks.

Treat your pets regularly
Even away from the outdoors, it is possible to have a tick latch onto you that has come into your home via your pet. Using natural remedies on your pets helps reduce your risk for getting ticks at home. CDC.com recommends consulting with your veterinarian to learn about your options for regular treatment of pets.

Awareness
Perhaps the simplest and most natural way to stay clear of ticks is to know how to truly avoid them. CDC.gov recommends that, when hiking or engaging in any outdoor activity, you avoid shrubs and leaf litter and stay as close to the center of a path as possible. At home, you can help make your yard tick-free by removing leaf litter, keeping the grass short, and laying wood chips or gravel between your lawn and any wooded area.
Ticks are not only disgusting to look at and painful once they’ve become attached, but the effects that they can leave on your body can be devastating. Keep yourself free of them by knowing where they might live and how to rid yourself of them quickly, and get back to enjoying the great outdoors once more.

fireworks display on a summer night

Fireworks are synonymous with Independence Day and often make appearances at select baseball stadiums to celebrate homeruns, New Year celebrations and big life events like weddings. But fireworks were used to celebrate long before July 4, 1776.

Fireworks were created during the Han Dynasty in China. The Han people, around 200 B.C., were said to roast stalks of bamboo until they were charred black and sizzling. This would suck all of the air from inside the stalks and eventually cause them to explode. Centuries later, Chinese Alchemists started filling these bamboo stalks with gunpowder, steel dust and cast iron shavings to make them sparkle during the explosion. The Chinese started using the “Baozhu,” meaning exploding bamboo in Mandarin, at Weddings and New Year Celebrations to ward off evil spirits.

After the Silk Road opened up trade, these pyrotechnics made it over to the West around the 13th Century. Historians have noted that fireworks became an official part of celebration and were even said to be used at the coronation of Anne Boleyn as the Queen of England. So, it is to no surprise they would be used to celebrate the anniversary of Independence Day.

Today, it seems fireworks have managed to hold onto their oriental roots. According to the 2016 U.S. Census Bureau, over $296 Million worth of fireworks were imported from China, which is expected to increase year after year. Not only is this tradition an expensive one but, one might argue it is the longest lasting tradition as well.
