4 Ways to Jump Start Your New Year
How to create and keep the right motivation all year long.
The time has come again to talk about New Year’s resolutions. While they may seem trivial, creating these types of goals can be a great way to center yourself, especially during a time when everything seems a little off balance. Even without the added stress of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to feel pressured at the start of the year to fulfill a list of resolutions. To combat that pressure, we’ve collected a list of things to keep in mind as we go into 2022.
-
The right state of mind.
Sometimes, you just have to talk to yourself. Researchers at the University of Toronto found that self-control comes a lot easier to those who have a good connection with their inner voice. People with muted or limited self-talk were less able to manage their own behavior within the study. Use your self-talk to remind yourself of the “why” behind your goals, and to reassure yourself of your own confidence and capabilities. You can also use this to help your stress balance; when you’re able to destress, you’ll find it much easier to manage your goals. -
Get seriously specific with your goals.
It’s easy to throw out big resolutions like getting a promotion, saving more, or losing weight, but sometimes being too broad can cost you the goal. The key is zeroing in on one very specific goal – answer the question, how will I achieve this? The more specific you can be, the better your chances are at keeping up with it. For example, if your main goal is to save more, how will you achieve that goal? Instead of simply “saving”, set the goal of “I’m going to save $30 a week by ordering in less.” Each time you meet this goal, it gives you a reason to celebrate your progress in real time rather than waiting until the end of the year. -
Enlist technology & social media.
These days, there’s at least 24 apps for everything, including mental health. Take a look at any goal-setting, productivity, or stress related apps to see what might work best in your routine. For example, MindShift teaches you to tackle negative thought patterns and how to form new habits. You can even sift through any journaling apps to keep a more personal record of your progress. Another trick could be utilizing your social channels as a way to hold yourself accountable to your friends and family. This may not be for everyone, but going public can be another method of staying on track. -
Celebrate, even when you slip-up.
The hardest part of setting new goals is definitely the need for patience. As the saying goes: Rome wasn’t built in a day. It can be hard to stay on track long enough to see the end result, so it’s important to celebrate along the way. Instead of waiting until you can finally run that half-marathon you’ve been training for, celebrate yourself after each new victory with a new book, your favorite coffee, or any other small reward to keep you motivated.
Patience can also be hard to come by if you find yourself getting off track with your goals. It’s easy to punish yourself or feel guilty over not sticking to the plan, but your setbacks shouldn’t keep you from moving forward. Be kind to yourself and stay away from the regret – it’s not necessary. Whenever you fall off, all you have to do is get right back on.

Earlier this year, the 2020 INFINITI QX80 received the 2020 Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the luxury full-size SUV category. The Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award honors new vehicles with the lowest projected ownership costs. The award was presented to INFINITI during the 2020 Chicago Auto Show.
Award Recognition
“We are honored to have been awarded the 2020 Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award for the QX80,” said Jeff Pope, Group Vice President of INFINITI Americas. “While we know our full-size luxury sport utility offers the room and towing capacity our clients want, it’s great to have such a reputable third party attest to the QX80’s overall long-lasting quality and low ownership costs.”
Award Methodology
In developing the data that drives the 5-Year Cost to Own projections, Kelley Blue Book’s analysts calculated projected resale values, insurance and state fees, and estimated costs for fuel. Maintenance and repair fees were also taken into consideration to determine the vehicle’s acquisition cost according to Kelley Blue Book’s Fair Purchase Price. The award is designed to help consumers make more informed new-car buying decisions by breaking down typical ownership cost details and naming the brands and models with the lowest projected five-year total.
About the 2020 INFINITI QX80
Combining luxurious and hand-crafted interior details and a bold exterior design, the 2020 INFINITI QX80 represents one of the best luxury SUV models on the market. As INFINITI’s flagship full-size luxury SUV, the QX80 includes an advanced 5.6-liter DOHC V8 engine that produces up to 8,500 pounds of towing capacity along with an updated INFINITI InTouch System with HD twin screen display, compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
The VC-Turbo Engine named 10 Best Engines Again
INFINITI’s VC-Turbo engine, the world’s first production variable compression ratio engine, was named to Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsion Systems list for the second year in a row.
Award-Winning Innovation
“When developing the VC-Turbo engine, we wanted to create a powertrain that had the power and performance of a far larger engine while still retaining the favorable fuel consumption of a turbocharged four-cylinder,” said Jeff Pope, group vice president, INFINITI Americas. “This engine’s ability to continuously adjust its compression based on driver’s input allows it to provide peak performance in any given situation, making it an ideal engine for a variety of vehicles and applications.”
In the 26th year of Wards 10 Best Engines and Propulsions Systems competition, the VC-Turbo engine was pitted against a wide range of new and significantly improved powertrains (26 nominees in all) from manufacturers around the world.
Breakthrough Technology
A breakthrough in combustion engine design, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine adjusts its compression ratio to optimize power and efficiency. The VC-Turbo engine continuously changes its compression ratio with an advanced multi-link system by raising or lowering the pistons’ reach, which provides the power and strength of a sprinter with the efficiency and endurance of a marathon runner.
In operation, the QX50’s VC-Turbo engine offers any compression ratio between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency). The engine delivers 268 hp at 5,600 rpm and 280 lb ft at 1,600 – 4,800 rpm. The VC-Turbo’s specific power output is higher than many of its rivals’ turbocharged gasoline engines, and it comes close to the performance of some V6 gasoline engines. The unit’s single-scroll turbo also ensures immediate accelerator responses on demand.
Design Benefits
The VC-Turbo’s favorable power-to-weight ratio and small overall size allows the cabin of the QX50 to be moved forward, providing significantly more overall interior space while accommodating sliding and reclining seats for rear passengers. The QX50 also boasts rear legroom of up to 38.7 inches and a trunk that can accommodate a stroller situated length-wise without letting down the back seats, with space for additional cargo.
Car Care: Get the Good Stuff
Counterfeit auto parts have been flooding the market. They can fool even the most experienced eyes because they often carry trademarks and packaging of trusted brands. Instead of meeting an automaker’s official standards, counterfeit parts are often dangerously inferior.
A Growing Problem
The National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center, part of Immigration and Custom Enforcement, warns: “Law enforcement has identified a trend of counterfeited parts that is growing at an alarming rate.”
According to Bruce Foucart, NIPRCC acting director, “at best these parts will not perform as well as authentic parts. At worst, they can fail catastrophically with potentially fatal consequences.”
Serious Safety Concerns
The results from counterfeit parts can be inconvenient at best, and as bad as catastrophic failure, an accident, or injury. Parts seized by the authorities have included maintenance items such as oil filters, air filters and spark plugs, and can quickly get into dangerous territory. Critical safety equipment including brake components, steering linkages, suspension parts, and engine parts are no place to take risks, and suspect parts have identified in all of those categories. The parts that are specifically designed for your vehicle are important in keeping you and your occupants safe.
How to Protect Yourself
How do you protect your vehicle, yourself, and your loved ones? One of the best ways is to use your dealer’s service department. Not only can you expect the shelves of its parts department to be stocked with the most trustworthy parts, but the factory-trained technicians will know the ins and outs of your specific model. They work on vehicles like yours every single day and know exactly what needs to be done. Having a finely-tuned sense of caution can be helpful, as well. Carefully investigate offers which seem too good to be true.
Considering that your vehicle is something you use almost every day, and you trust it to get you wherever you need to go safely, you need to be vigilant. With the support of your car’s manufacturer, the service department at your dealership is the best way to ensure you’re getting exactly what you paid for. Stop by today to find out if there are any specials going on and make sure your vehicle is being fitted with all the right parts.
