“The Makers”: INFINITI’s Award Winning Video Series
After almost three years of closed borders, Japan has reopened its doors to hungry tourists ready to explore this always fascinating county and culture. A culture in balance, ever evolving yet deeply intertwined in its own heritage, creates an incredible allure that can be hard to ignore. “The Makers”, INFINITI’s newly launched video series, is a deep dive into the often elusive subjects of modern Japanese artistry and design. As a brand with Japanese roots that also serves to push the boundaries, Modern Japanese Luxury is home to INFINITI.
Throughout the video series, you will be able to meet artisans of Japan who share their personal design philosophies and source of inspiration. With its debut beginning in Kyoto, a city that provides a perfect backdrop with its deep history under transformation, season one follows six celebrated craftspeople who push their limits while honoring their past. Connecting with their tradition in a perfect blend of modernity, these craftspeople take you through innovations and their quest for progress, reimagining old crafts using newer technologies from other industries.
Season two journeys deeper into Japanese luxury through the lens of architecture and design. Follow along with five highly credentialed Japanese architects while they demonstrate how Japanese design principles and philosophies persist quite tangibly and consistently – whether the topic is buildings or cars. With so much to learn and understand, “The Makers” will bring you through a journey of luxury you’d never expect.
Recently awarded first place in the “Digital + Online” category in the 2022 Campaign Brief Asia Awards, “The Makers” has made its own mark for creativity within the marketing industry and well beyond. While the series filled a travel lust guide during the pandemic, it continues to be an accessible way to get deep into the subject to Modern Japanese Luxury, spinning abstract concepts into a beautifully composed visual reality.

Car Care: Which Oil is Right for Your Vehicle?

Changing your motor oil is commonly referred to as the most important type of car maintenance you can perform. While you can find many guides detailing every stage of the oil changing process, few discuss the very first step: choosing the correct motor oil.
Consult the owner’s manual
There are two reasons to consult your owner’s manual before buying any new motor oil. The first is that if your vehicle is still under warranty, you risk invalidating it by using something other than the recommended oil. The second is that your owner’s manual will tell you the viscosity your motor oil should have, which represents how well it flows in your engine. Motor oil thins as it heats and thickens as it cools, but too much of either can be detrimental: Too thick and too much energy is required to turn the crankshaft, impairing fuel economy; too thin and it won’t seal and lubricate as effectively.
Look for certification labels
When buying motor oil, you should always look for API (American Petroleum Institute) certification labels. A starburst symbol indicates that the oil meets the current engine protection standard and fuel economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), which is comprised of several U.S. and Japanese automakers. You should also look for the API donut, which displays the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) viscosity number and whether the oil has passed the Energy Conserving test.
Conventional, premium or synthetic
There are many different types of oil out there, including conventional oil, premium oil, partially and fully synthetic oil and even high-mileage oil. The cheapest and most common is conventional oil, and if your vehicle has been running well with it in the past, you should continue to use it. Conventional oil works well for owners who get frequent oil changes and have low-mile engines. Premium conventional oil is becoming more common on new vehicles, and fully synthetic oils are typically used on high-end performance cars. Synthetic oils are typically better than conventional oil in every way (as long as the owner’s manual calls for it), but cost significantly more. Partially synthetic oil, or synthetic blend, combines premium conventional oil and synthetic oil to offer a compromise between the two. As these are cheaper than fully synthetic oils but provide greater high-load engine protection, they are popular among pickup and SUV drivers. Finally, high-mileage oil, which can be conventional or synthetic, is constructed with seal conditioners to help extend the life of old engines that have already traveled well beyond 75,000 miles.
In summary, you should choose a certified oil that fits in your budget and meets the viscosity requirement outlined in your owner’s manual. Our service department also knows what works best for any vehicle we sell, so come in and see us for an oil change.

QX60 Tops the J.D Power 2022 Midsize Premium SUV
The results are in, and the QX60 is at the top. The INFINITI QX60 has topped the midsize premium SUV segment in the J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. In fact, INFINITI was able to move up three rank positions this year, as a result of such a high improvement for the brand overall. The all-new QX60 took the market by storm at the start of its launch, bringing a sleek and modern exterior to one of INFINITI’s most beloved models. Of course, the success of the QX60 is no surprise to us.
The QX60 itself is not a new vehicle to the INFINITI lineup, but the redesigned 2022 model brings a brand new look that includes our popular ‘floating roof’ design, 20-inch wheels, and LED lights to bring this vehicle to life at any time of the day or night. The tinted back windows and upgraded color selection is just the cherry on top.
The APEAL study asks owners after 90 days of ownership to consider 37 different attributes and rank them on their emotional attachment. J.D. Power Study measures the excitement a vehicle brings – looking for the sense of comfort the owner feels when climbing into the driver’s seat, and the exhilaration they get when they step on the gas. The APEAL study is a result of 84,165 owners of new 2022 model vehicles through February through May of 2022.
“Since 1989, it’s been INFINITI’s goal to deliver exceptional customer satisfaction, so to receive a segment-top ranking in a study that truly reflects the voice of QX60 buyers is really encouraging” said Peyman Kargar, Chairperson, INFINITI Global.

The Dawn of INFINITI’S Electric Future

As the future turns electric, so will INFINITI. Earlier this year, INFINITI announced the company’s Ambition 2030 electric vision, with the ultimate goal being a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world. The first step? Creating the very first all-electric INFINITI vehicle. The QX Inspiration is not just the first INFINITI EV concept, but a total redesign from the ground up. The QX Inspiration will define a new era of INFINITI design powered by performance and range confidence.
The QX Inspiration has been designed with the principles of modern Japanese design and architecture. The elegant creases found throughout the bodystyle are influenced by origami, and the signature color treatments were inspired by Japanese ceramic work. Smooth surfaces that replace the grille are framed by aerodynamic channels to divert air over and around the vehicle as it drives. You’ll find a signature laser-like etching throughout the interior and exterior, including the headlights.
Without the need for an engine, the open space that comes with an EV has given the QX Inspiration a lounge-like interior to create a relaxing space for four. To enter the welcoming cabin, you’ll open clamshell doors to create an even more open feel. You’ll find unique patterns, hand-crafted leather seating, calming interior lighting, and an all-new wide-screen monitor that sits behind the steering wheel with a display all of its own.

Tribute to the Past With an Eye Toward the Future

The city of Kyoto has an undeniable history, seamlessly blending the past and future with a rare balance. It also holds a special place for the INFINITI global design team. Paired with a local collective of artisans that work to put a nod to the past within their work, the INFINITI team finds their commonality of values and passion within their designs. INFINITI Senior Design Director Taisuke Nakamura recently sat down with six Kyoto-based artisans to explore their mutual appreciation for nature, innovation, and to hear their thoughts on modern Japanese luxury.
This in-depth series, coined “The Makers”, explores what makes Kyoto unique and admired among their artisans and our designers. The discussion begins with the natural evolution of the world that transcends their products – “I don’t look at it from the perspective of traditional crafts, I see it as something that’s beautiful … and aesthetic,” says Tsuji-san, whose wirework is intricately beautiful but also very useful. Which then evolves the conversation into what makes something a luxury, and the world around it.
“I feel it’s important for luxury to be real,” says Horiki-san. “And if you’re wondering what ‘real’ is, the finished product is beautiful, but the process of manufacturing is also beautiful. And the tools are beautiful … and the aging process is beautiful. Each and every process is beautiful and that’s what’s real.”
